"This film was created Winter Quarter 2009 for Prof. Lubomir Kocka's Directing The Narrative class, at the Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD). The project, 'Self-Portrait,' called for a film that introduces, explains, parodies, satirizes, displays, or otherwise expresses yourself. It was shot on an HVX200 in 720p24 on January 15th, 2009 and presented in class on January 20th, 2009."
Everything that I have done at SCAD so far has been pretty light or humorous, so for this project I decided to get the stereotypical pretentious art student out of my system. I focused on form and style, trying to create a visual rhythm through composition and camera movement. I especially wanted to experiment with the Jib Arm, to see what I could accomplish. To keep it from being overly shallow, I put a lot of thought into symbolism and structure, so that the imagery would be personally meaningful.
I'm very happy with the result and owe much of that to my super fucking great Cinematographer, Josh Jones.
Thanks for watching,
